At Awaken Life Centre for Fertility & Hormone Health Centre we offer various specialized tests. These allow us to make more accurate diagnoses and provide more effective treatment for many health conditions, including those affecting fertility and hormone health.
Here are a few examples of tests that we commonly recommend:
IgG Food Sensitivity – blood test
This is a blood test that looks at our immunological response to the foods that we eat.
This tests for levels of an antibody called IgG (Immunoglobulin G) that is produced in response to certain foods that we might be sensitive or intolerant to. This is different from a true food allergy which is an IgE reaction.
These IgG antibodies can cause widespread inflammation, which in turn can affect your digestion, hormones, energy levels, mood and more. They also often have a delayed reaction, taking hours or days to develop making it difficult to connect which foods may be causing your symptoms.
Even if a patient does not have digestion issues, we encourage them to do this particular test because all too often there are foods that cause an inflammatory response in the body that can lead to many symptoms other than digestion problems, especially hormonal imbalances.
Our Naturopathic Doctors are skilled at being able to look at the results and uncovering what they really mean. It’s not just a report of what to eliminate – we can actually gain a lot of insight into a patient’s overall state of health.
For example, if there is a long list of foods that give a positive result, it likely means the individual has intestinal hyperpermeability or “leaky gut syndrome”.
Upon analyzing the results, as part of our course of treatment, we give patients a customized plan of what foods are top priority to completely eliminate long term, those foods that only need to be removed in the short term, and which foods can simply be cut back on.
Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis
As the name suggests, this test is a comprehensive analysis of your stool sample to get an overall picture of your gut health. It looks bacterial balance (levels of good vs bad bacteria), presence of yeast overgrowth (Candida), parasites, digestion and absorption, and inflammation.
Improving hormone balance and treating infertility is all about balancing the major systems in the body.
“All disease begins in the gut.” ~ Hippocrates
For most people that starts with their gut health, and because that ties into their immune system, which, in turn affects their hormones – this is why we so strongly emphasize food sensitivity testing and stool analysis in our clinic.

DUTCH Testing – Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones
The dried urine collection process is great for baseline measurements of both men and women with hormonal imbalances as well as for Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) monitoring.
If you’re experiencing increased premenstrual symptoms (PMS), weight gain, fatigue, low libido, mood swings, depression and/or menopausal symptoms – the DUTCH test was created to provide insight into many of these concerns.

By using the DUTCH test in our clinic, we’re able to attain a complete assessment of your sex and adrenal hormones, along with their metabolites, and an oxidative stress marker – all in one easy-to-administer test.
So, if you have concerns about your hormonal health, and are struggling to understand the reasons behind your symptoms – this is one of the most comprehensive hormone panels available.
After taking the DUTCH test, we will work with you to continue to track and evaluate your hormone levels, ensuring they’re optimally balanced.

Saliva Hormone Testing
Saliva hormone testing is a convenient, non-invasive and clinically useful way of measuring hormone levels as well as for uncovering hormone excesses and deficiencies that may be at the root of your health issues.
However, as with the urine test, this test needs to be interpreted carefully, especially when hormones are being supplemented.
Our clinical team takes due care in reviewing the results, and once a hormone imbalance has been detected, a customized nutritional and supplementation program may be indicated.
We use Rocky Mountain Analytical for the female hormone panel, month-long female hormone assessment, male hormone panel and adrenal cortisol panel.
Why we offer 2 different types of hormone testing: Urine + Saliva
Everyone is unique in their hormonal chemistry and no two hormonal imbalances are quite alike! We treat each patient as an individual and aim to choose the most appropriate test for them based on their unique concerns.
Urine testing is able to measure all of the hormone metabolites whereas the saliva test is not as comprehensive but may be indicated for certain patients and their particular health issues.
Full Thyroid Panel
This panel is often used to complement the saliva or urine hormone testing, and includes thyroid antibodies: TSH, T3, T4, and TPO antibodies.
As you may be familiar, most medical doctors don’t run a comprehensive thyroid panel so often the “bigger picture” of your thyroid health can be misinterpreted. This is the reason why so many thyroid conditions like Hypothyroidism go undiagnosed and hence untreated.
Using the thyroid panel test, along with your health assessment, our team of health professionals is better able to devise a customized treatment plan for you.
Other standard tests
We also run many more common tests at Awaken Life Centre for Fertility & Hormone Health such as:
Vitamin D, B12
Fasting glucose and fasting insulin – done together to calculate the risk of insulin resistance
Although you may have already had a number of these tests, our distinctive interpretation of the results focuses more on getting you into the “functional” ranges rather than just the standard “normal” ranges that many medical practitioners rely on.
